Total Health Program Series and Psychotherapy Questions
What is the Total Health Program Series? The Total Health Program Series is a newly-developed approach to helping clients make positive changes in their lives. It is based on the assumption that the main obstacle to positive life change is lack of knowledge and tools. The programs are divided into 10 sessions, each of which focuses on understanding and learning to integrate a specific skill into everyday life. Sessions are structured and pre-defined based on client need. They are goal-orientated and have a designated beginning and end. Clients are able to take what they learn and put it to immediate practice.
How are the Total Health Program Series sessions structured? Each 1-hour session is formatted in the following way:
The First 10 Minutes: - Review of previous week and preparation of material for new topic (See individual “Total Health” programs for list of topics) 10-15 minutes: - Education about the topic, including a discussion of how the information applies to your life 20-25 minutes: - Practice applying the new skills, ensuring that you will be able to begin using them once the session is over The Final 10 Minutes: - Create goals and a plan for accountability
What Happens at the End of the 10 Week Program?
After 10 weeks many individuals feel they are ready to implement their tools independently. Others may choose to work with a clinician to further personal mastery of new skills.
What if I miss a weekly session, can I make it up?
Yes. We will start where you left off the next week you are available.
Does it take 10 weeks to complete the program?
You may choose to accelerate the program by doing more than one session per week. However, we recommend waiting at least 3-4 days between sessions to allow yourself time to practice the new skills. You may also choose to wait longer than one week between sessions, as long as you create a suitable plan for accountability between sessions.
How is Psychotherapy different from the Total Health Program Series?
Psychotherapy is process-oriented and discovery-focused. Therapists work with clients who already possess an understanding of the skills needed to overcome barriers to change but have difficulty implementing them due to emotional obstacles. Through therapy, clients learn to identify these obstacles, understand their origins, and discover how they impact everyday thoughts and decisions. Over time, after working through barriers, clients are often able to make positive life changes. Session focus may vary each week and is based on where clients currently are in their personal self-work.
How do I know whether therapy or the Total Health Program Series is right for me?
Both you and our qualified clinicians will have input about which program is best for you. After an initial assessment, our staff will make recommendations and you will have the opportunity to choose the services that fit your needs.
Our clinicians are trained in therapy and in the "Total Health" programs, clients also may choose to benefit from both services. Often clients find that the "Total Health" program helps their progress in therapy, and that therapy allows them to gain more from the "Total Health" program. In what formats are sessions offered?
Both therapy and the "Total Health" programs are offered in individual and group formats.
Group sessions are held in our offices. Sessions for individuals are conducted over the phone or in person – either in our office or in your home (for an additional fee). Is there a difference in cost?
